Olive Oil Yale Symposium

Once again BioCoS was present at the 6th International Yale Symposium on Olive Oil and Health that was held December 2024 at Heraklion.

This year our CEO, Stelios Arhondakis was invited to co-chair the panel “Exploring innovative technologies ensuring quality and integrity of EVOO: from plant to patron.”.
During the session 4 exceptional panelists from the private sector, regulatory bodies and academia, had the opportunity to present their perspective and technological innovations targeting olive oil fraud.

During the Symposium two EU projects, Watson and ALLIANCE, developing technologies paving the way for a safer, more trusted food industry in Europe were present. The invited partners had the opportunity not only to design future synergies, but also to present their research outcomes on how the involved technologies can enhance transparency and sustainability in the Olive oil sector.

Our Bioinformatician, Georgia Kesisoglou, had the opportunity to present BioCoS novel work on automated classification of Olive cultivars using Machine Learning techniques, accelerating time-to-results, minimizing variability effects (e.g., experimental, human error, sample), and reducing accuracy and costs in large scale DNA testing studies.
