PurEVOO
PurEVOO: Ensuring Extra Virgin Olive Oil integrity from admixtures with lower quality vegetable oils using DNA-based technologies.
PurEVOO is one of the 4 winning projects among 40 applications from 13 EU countries under InnoBuyer project, aiming to transfer and tailor innovative solutions that meet needs of public organization.
In Germany, olive oil fraud has emerged as a critical issue, characterized by mislabeling and adulteration of extra virgin olive oil, undermining consumer confidence, market integrity and poses potential health risks. The main types of fraud are adulteration by the addition of cheaper oils, false claims of origin and the use of substandard oils.
PurEVOO aims to deliver a reliable and cost-effective DNA based solution targeting admixtures of olive oil with other vegetable oils, and to complement current solutions used to tackle this issue, and further enhance consumer protection.
